I’m Okuda, a member of the Kagayaki team!

The other day, I heard that charcoal burning would be done in Kumogahata,

I learned about charcoal burning as an interview (^-^) /

Gloves, hat, boots and preparations are OK!

Immediately head to the hut where charcoal burning is done. Charcoal burning work has started.

Local people and university students gathered in the charcoal-burning hut to help (o ^^ o)

You can see the charcoal-burning kiln in the back.

It seems that there is something to do before putting the wood in the kiln.

that is···

A hole in the center of the photo. It is said that a chimney will be installed here.

Looking at it this way, you can see that the kiln is not standing on the ground,

but is dug up and covered with a roof.

It seems that it varies depending on the region and craftsman, and none of them

seems to be the correct answer(^^;)

This soil, which is said to have been taken from the mountain, is used when installing the chimney.

Unlike ordinary soil, when it contains water, it feels like clay and hardens(¨!!

Certainly, even from the color, you can see that it is different from ordinary soil.

Fill the lower part with soil and fix the upper part with a wire.

There seem to be various ways to do this, but according to the charcoal-burner in Kumogahata,

the “angle of smoke” is important!

Now that the chimney has been installed, I will introduce the work of putting wood in the kiln next time(^^♪
